The Practice Set

Sometimes referred to as the Beginners Set, this simplified version of the instrument features three main components -

Though there are exceptions, it is generally considered prudent to begin your playing career on this set. With this instrument you will be introduced to the three most critical elements in the art of piping. The bellows supplies the air for the system, while the bag holds a supply of air and allows appropriate distribution and pressure of that air. The chanter, along with the reed therein, is the end user of the air and is, in fact, the engine room of the instrument. I am currently manufacturing top quality chanters in the keys of D ( concert pitch) and C. Please click here to hear and see samples.

The relationship between these three elements is essential, and some time and practice are required to balance the functions of all three, prior to progressing to other ornamenting elements.
